Customer Review: Unexplosive Basketball Training

Well, when I ordered the book I was expecting to read about a program that would help me become an explosive athlete. Well, I was in for a big suprise. The book did not tackle anything close to developing explosiveness. It was more of a discussion of proper jumping and running form. Yeah, it certainly will help you become more explosive but the title was misleading. He did not even discuss a template or program. He prescribed 8-20 reps for strength training the muscles with bands or weights. For those in the know, the range is 1-5 reps for developing maximal strength and power. Don't buy this book.

Customer Review: Don't Buy It

#1 Your first step should never be "long". If you extend your feet beyond your knee your using your hamstring to pull yourself forward. If you keep your first step shorter, you push off the ball off your foot, and you activate your glutes which is much more explosive.

#2 Shouldn't use bands. As the resistance increases, the speed of contraction decreases as the strain on the joint increases. This will lead to an injury. Also they are inneffective at developing fast twich fibers, which require acceleration throughout the movement.

I reccomend "52 week Basketball Training" and "Athletic Body In Balance" if you want to design a succesful training regimine. [..]

College Basketball: Wagering to Win

Fans that wager on college basketball can become consistent winners and still gain the full entertainment value of both watching the games and wagering. By applying a little extra effort to handicap games and place wagers intelligently, the losses of the average fan can be turned into significant winnings. If you are a fan are ready to spend some time handicapping - maybe 20 minutes - you can win consistently. By using a systematic handicapping and wagering process that makes the best use of your time, you can gain an advantage. Examples of the most powerful techniques for gaining a consistent wagering advantage are: · Specializing in point-spread wagers rather than totals, futures, interactive, and exotic propositions. · Projecting a team's play based on past performance against teams comparable to the next opponent, not all teams. · Analyzing a team's performance trend by focusing on the last 10 games. · Systematically varying the amounts wagered to reflect your perceived advantage - the difference between the outcome that you forecast for the game and the point spread. · Doing business with sports books with offer you a tangible advantage in terms of how early they accept wagers as well as the propositions they handle and transaction fees (vigorish) they charge. · For each desired wager, "shop" among sports books for the most favorable terms - both the point spread and the moneyline.

Customer Review: Not practical

Spends about half the book analyzing one game. That equates to at least 30 minutes of analyzing. Even if someone narrows down to one conference that is a lot of time spent in going through the game analysis.

Customer Review: The definitive roundball gambling book still awaits publication.

There is no such thing as an ignorant basketball bettor. We're all experts, right? Well, I wasn't doing so well and needed inspiration.
I didn't find it in this book.

The material is basically rehash of old truisms and would have made a solid magazine article. It fails as a book. You gain more insight and positive feedback for your hunches by logging onto college athletics webpages, believe me.

In addition to this book being a "labor of love", Steve Carp leaves no stone unturned regarding the history of the team. Chock full of facts and statistics, as well as personal observation, it is easy to read and comprehend even if one is not a fan of the team, or of the sport.

Customer Review: The Rebel Legacy

Being a local from Las Vegas I have always been a fan of the Rebels Basketball Team. "Runnin" is a great vivid look into the 'entire'history of the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. Steve does not throw any punches as he looks into the drama and glory that continually surronds this team located in the heart of 'Sin' City. A good book for any basketball aficionado or weekend couch viewer.

Rimshots: Basketball Pix, Rolls, and Rhythms (Picture Puffins)

I want to thank you for helping me to exceed my goal.
As you can see, your endless talk and chatter only served as fuel for my fire.
And judging from the score, you just got burned.
This major debut from a talented young writer and photographer is a righteously entertaining medley of quick stories, poems, jokes, and prose meditations focusing on The Game as played by high school and college hopefuls, street warriors, and the pros they all admire. Gritty duotone photographs of street courts and young urban players provide the perfect venue for the bold design of the text as it hums and weaves across the spreads. Inspired by his love of African-American rhythms in writing and jazz, Charles Smith has created a paean to his favorite game that will drive readers' imaginations from the page to the courts and back again.

Customer Review: a bit obnoxious

This book is often rude and self-indulgent. I don't want my kids reading about humiliating opponenents, especially when the grammar is bad: "Victory for the team and I; humiliation for you." I don't care for the self-congratulatory tone: "I remember challenging the star of the freshman team and beating him in one-on-one." And the list of street court "excuses" seems lazy when half involve something wrong with the player's shoes. My wife hates this book.

But my basketball-obsessed 20 month old likes the pictures (and he's too young to pick up on the obnoxiousness). Thankfully, my four year old isn't interested.

Customer Review: "Rimshots" Rocks!

When I read "Rimshots" I loved the beat of the poems. Being quite involved with basketball (I'm on 3 teams), I thought the book was really cool. I am also an aspiring photographer. So when I read about the author I was amazed that Mr. Smith was able to combine a love for basketball as well as a love for photography. I think he's become my role modle now . He's awesome and all of his books are awesome. "Rimshots" Rocks!
